Helen’s Ceramics and Art Studio Project Disclosure & Acknowledgment

Thank you for creating with us!

Please read the following information carefully before beginning your project.

Ceramic painting is a fun & creative experience, & each finished piece is unique. Because ceramic projects go through a kiln firing process, final results may vary from what you see while painting in the studio.

Nature of Ceramic Finishes

Ceramic painting involves a kiln firing process where pieces are heated to high temperatures in order to permanently fuse the glaze to the ceramic surface. Due to the nature of this process, the final appearance of your piece may differ from how it appears when painted. Several factors may affect the final outcome of your piece, including but not limited to:

  • Thickness & number of coats of glaze applied

  • Brush strokes or uneven application

  • Drying time prior to firing

  • Interaction of glaze colors during firing

  • Kiln firing temperature, placement & duration

  • Natural characteristics of ceramic materials

Possible Surface Variations

Because of the kiln process & glazing materials, customers should expect that minor variations & imperfections may occur, including but not limited to:

  • Pinpointing (small dots or holes in the glaze)

  • Air bubbles, spotting or speckling

  • Color variations

  • Brush marks or texture differences

  • Glaze movement during firing

These characteristics are common in kiln-fired ceramics & considered part of the handmade process rather than defects.

Fragility of Ceramic Pieces

Bisque ceramics & finished ceramic pieces can be fragile & may break if dropped or handled roughly. While we take care in handling all pieces during the glazing & firing process, accidental breakage can occasionally occur.  If your item is broken (a piece separates from the main bisque piece) during the firing process, you may select a bisque item of equal or lessor value to replace.  Please note: special classes, events & workshops are excluded from this guarantee.  Minor cracks or crackling of the paint may occur & are not included.

Exposure & Use Risks

Participation in activities at the studio, including painting ceramics, glazing, & being present during the use of kilns & related materials, may involve exposure to paints, glazes, kiln emissions, fumes, dust, & other substances. While the studio takes reasonable precautions to maintain a safe environment, such exposure may pose potential health risks, including but not limited to respiratory irritation, allergic reactions, or other unforeseen effects. By choosing to participate, I voluntarily assume all risks associated with these activities & exposures. Additionally at times sharp objects may be used in the creation process.  Participant assumes all risks associated with such objects & any injuries that may occur due to use.
